This was a well-run three-year-old handicap that looks solid form among the principals, a handicap debutant pulling clear with a couple who arrived in good heart. That means the Ralph Beckett-trained Man of La Mancha is a horse to remain positive about. He was claimer ridden to offset a penalty he was carrying for his success at Windsor, and he was perhaps a shade unlucky not to follow up as a troubled age meant he conceded first run. Man of La Mancha stayed on well to finish never nearer than at the finish and he's still one to be interested in with further progress on the cards.

Fourth, 2m handicap, Goodwood, Friday 23 May

A competitive staying handicap that is likely to prove strong form for the grade and o, who fared best of those without a recent run, shaped with promise in fourth. He ran up to his best form on his first start at two miles, though ultimately left the impression he'd be sharper for the run after his effort flattened out. o has a Northumberland Plate entry, is relatively unexposed and could well progress further this summer, so he's very much one to keep in mind.

Miss Nightfall (97)

Runner-up, 7f handicap, Goodwood, Saturday 24 May

Miss Nightfall had been largely progressive as a juvenile, notably finishing a close-up third in a valuable sales race at Doncaster, and she raised her game another notch on Timeform's ratings when runner-up on her reappearance and handicap debut at Goodwood. Miss Nightfall was beaten two and a half lengths by Silver Ghost but looked unlucky not to finish closer as she was held in by the winner when looking for room and had to weave her way through the pack, conceding first run as a result. She still managed to finish nicely on top of her other rivals and this progressive filly can take another step forward granted better luck in running.
