proved better than ever as he extended his unbeaten sequence over fences to 3, lacking nothing for fitness after 15 months off; chased leaders, travelled strongly, upsides 3 out, edged ahead next, tackled flat, driven out (possibly idling a little); he may need some recovery time but ought not to go up much and should go well again.

ran another fine race, seeing out 3m strongly on his belated first try at the trip; held up, headway 4 out, not fluent next, challenged last, kept on well; it's getting on for 3 years since he won a race but he's in the form to put that right soon, with more options open now his stamina is proven.

claimer ridden after 10 weeks off (during which time he'd had a breathing operation), ran at least as well as when winning this race from a lower mark in 2023; travelled well, in touch fourth, challenged 3 out, every chance approaching last, no extra only late on; he's a reliable type.

An exciting finish and solid-looking form, the trio involved comprising one unbeaten over fences, a well-treated veteran and last year's winner; the lead was disputed but that's not to say it was an especially strong pace.
