Ordinary fare for the grade, especially with the pair at the top of the weights underperforming and Our Havana was able to take advantage of some very lenient handicapping in comfortable fashion.

OUR HAVANA had other more convincing excuses than the surface for not reproducing his all-weather form at Doncaster, chiefly the combination of the trip and the tactics on the day, and he confirmed himself as leniently treated as his most recent all-weather win suggested, the decision by the BHA to split his rating meaning he was only 4 lb higher than for that 5½ length win; held up, smooth headway early in straight, led over 1f out, driven out; he's got a positive profile overall, including a good strike rate in handicaps, and will remain of plenty of interest.

GWEEDORE has been given a chance by the handicapper and turned in his best effort of the season, the resurgence forewarned by the market having gone off at just 8/1 having been 125/1 and 150/1 on his first 2 starts this year; chased leaders, driven over 2f out, ran on; he may not be the force of old, but doesn't need to be from this sort of mark.

DAIN MA NUT IN (IRE) was very much on the up when last seen in the autumn and has returned as good as ever following 7 months off, not seen to best effect having ended up in last following a rare slow start; slowly into stride, raced off the pace, pushed along early in straight, late headway, left poorly placed; will be suited by a return to 1m (won twice over that trip here last year) and is one to be interested in next time.

ORIENTAL PRINCE faced a very different set of circumstances to those that have seen him thrive all winter, up in both grade (2 lb out of the handicap) and trip and he acquitted himself well in the circumstances, with this perhaps stretching his stamina to the limit; led, took strong hold, headed over 1f out, no extra close home.

SPIRIT GENIE (IRE) whose last run is easily excused, shaped as if back in form; steadied at the start, held up, pushed along 3f out, late headway, unsuited by the emphasis on speed.

RAMAZAN (IRE) an easy-to-back stablemate of the winner, probably needed the run after 5 months off; chased leader, pushed along 3f out, weakened inside final 1f; the handicapper has started to relent with him, lower in the weights now than when touched off in last year's Victoria Cup and Great St Wilfrid, and there's surely a big one with his name on it this season.

CATCH THE PADDY (IRE) ran poorly back on turf; mid-field, effort early in straight, lost place 2f out; it's apparent that he's much more effective on all-weather.

NEW IMAGE proved to be a disappointment after 7 months off, too free despite the fitting of a hood; mid-field, failed to settle out wide, pushed along over 2f out, hung right over 1f out, weakened, eased off.
