didn't need to improve to make a winning return from 7 months off but still impressed with the way he went about things and looks a young chaser still on the upgrade - he'd be an interesting runner in next month's Coral Gold Cup at Newbury; tracked pace, jumped fine, asserted quickly after taking over 2 out and well on top at the finish (likely to stay beyond 3m).

had plenty on his plate conceding 15 lb to the favourite and, although rusty in the jumping department at times, made a perfectly satisfactory return from 7 months off, in the process of mounting a challenge when baulked at the second last.

was put in his place by a pair of more-experienced chasers and will need to brush up his jumping if he's to get close to his hurdles form in this sphere, as at Galway failing to take a cut at the fences whilst setting a modest gallop and soon done with once headed after a final error 2 out.

A field halved in size by non-runners but the relevant trio stood their ground, each of them placed in Grade 1 company at Aintree in the spring, Heart Wood taking full advantage of a sizeable weight pull with old rival Corbetts Cross to provide his yard with its third win in the race in 5 years.
