A race that revolved around the unbeaten Inspiral, who'd not been forward enough to run in the Guineas, but whose form had been franked time and again in the trials and the Guineas itself, her scintillating display in routing her field, confirming that Newmarket was indeed Hamlet without the princess, Inspiral producing one of the very best performances in this race this century, the only winner of the 1000 Guineas running close to this level in that time being Finsceal Beo, the only shame that the impressive Irish Guineas winner Homeless Songs wasn't in what was otherwise a fully representative field; the gallop was an ordinary one, the pacemakers holding their position pretty well, the winner perhaps even better than the result, given where she came from.

INSPIRAL the top 2-y-o filly last year, unbeaten and with strong form to her name, was ante-post favourite for the Guineas, but had not come to herself in time to run at Newmarket, ready now and here showing just what she's capable of with a performance well above standard for the race, finding a great turn of foot once she got to the front; held up, took keen hold, shaken up soon after start, effort straight, headway to lead 1f out, quickened clear, well on top finish, impressive; open to further improvement and will take all the beating against her own sex wherever she goes next.

SPENDARELLA (USA) lost her unbeaten record, but did herself justice against a very smart rival, no discredit in being beaten by that filly and holding on gamely for second; tracked pace, shaken up over 2f out, led briefly approaching final 1f, left behind by winner, kept on; she'll presumably head back to the States after this, though clearly she'd be of interest again if she remained here.

DISCOVERIES (IRE) sister to the 2018 winner Alpha Centauri, stepped up on reappearance run, emerging best of the quintet that ran in the 1000 Guineas, every chance that she or the fourth will prove the best of the miling fillies that ran that day (not counting Tuesday), a decent race in her this year; handy, ridden over 3f out, not quicken early in straight, stayed on approaching final 1f.

TENEBRISM (USA) clearly hadn't done herself justice when favourite for the Guineas and showed herself effective at 1m this time, running up to the level of her Cheveley Park form, this just her fourth race and perhaps still better to come, entries in the Pretty Polly and Irish Champion suggesting she's expected to stay further still, though if the winner skips the Falmouth, connections may be tempted by that option; in touch, shaken up straight, kept on final 1f, never on .

CACHET (IRE) ran respectably, needing no excuses, though her busy spring might just have taken the edge off of her slightly; led, shaken up 2f out, headed approaching final 1f, one paced.

HONEY GIRL seemed to excel herself for the second start running, even if there was an element of her picking up the pieces after the others had had their turn, not sure to reproduce this; dropped out, shaken up early in straight, kept on well final 1f, nearest at the finish.

SANDRINE ran to a similar level as last time, that despite not getting the rub of the green, still the hint that there's a better performance in her at this trip when things fall right; held up, effort when forced wide home turn, keeping on when hampered 2f out, never on .

PIZZA BIANCA (USA) who'd had Cachet behind her when winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf last autumn, ran creditably, in a better race than the 2 she'd contested previously this year, likely to stay further given the chance; held up, not settle fully, shaken up entering straight, not quicken, stayed on approaching final 1f, nearest at the finish; she looked a poor mover, but she has plenty of form on firm ground and obviously ran creditably on firmish here.

MANGOUSTINE (FR) wasn't in the same form as last time, unable to confirm placings with Cachet from the Pouliches, perhaps firmer ground than previously a factor; slowly into stride, in touch, took keen hold, effort 3f out, chased leaders over 1f out, no extra inside final 1f.

PROSPEROUS VOYAGE (IRE) was below form, going backwards from her run in the Guineas, not helped by getting no cover out wide, drawn highest; prominent, not settle fully, ridden straight, wandered, weakened over 1f out.

GRANDE DAME was set a stern task on just her third start and wasn't up to it, though she ran close to the level she did last time, better potentially still to come at a more realistic level; held up, took keen hold, ridden straight, hung right, no extra over 1f out.

ROLLING THE DICE (IRE) was out of her depth; held up, labouring early in straight.
