All bar 2 had already won a race this season but only a couple of that group - plus an outsider who'd looked out of sorts lately - were still going with purpose by the second last, the race not taking the winning it might have for all the winner is a likeable and steadily improving stayer, a time in excess of 7 minutes for a 3m chase painting a fair picture of the obvious emphasis on stamina.

JET LEGS (IRE) added to a really positive chasing profile as he went one better than at Kelso faced with a more gruelling test that took more than 20s longer to run; waited with, jumped impeccably, took closer order before halfway, jumped on 4 out, kicked on before 2 out, closed down only final 100 yds; he'll continue to win his share as he steady rise goes on.

UP HELLY AA KING is a teenager yet a recent fall clearly hadn't left a mark, bouncing straight back, if looking rather flattered by his proximity to a winner who spent most of the run-in twice as far clear; waited with, hampered fifth, pressed leader from 3 out, held soon after last, closed down leader only late on.

KEEP WONDERING (IRE) returned to some form after 8 weeks off, looking sure to finish much closer for most of the latter stages, not so strong a stayer as the front pair but also possibly lacking peak fitness in a slog; ridden more patiently, behind when blundered second, crept closer from 5 out, threatened between last 2, effort flattened out.

SHIGHNESS was stepping back into open company but wouldn't have won a mares handicap in this form in any case, a lacklustre display on the back of a wide-margin win in a small-field Catterick race that had rather fallen apart; raced off the pace, went with little fluency, struggling early final circuit, rallied out wide 5 out, left behind from 3 out.

HOUSTON TEXAS (IRE) had been given 8 weeks off and was back at Carlisle but still didn't fire; in touch, shaken up after eleventh, struggling when hit 3 out.

EAST STREET (IRE) was let down by his jumping rather than his attitude for a change tried blinkered after 8 weeks off, still handy when unseating at the fifth.

NO BUT I WILL went with more zest in first-time blinkers but blotted his copybook at the other end of the race this time; led early, led again after fifth, headed when mistake eighth, led again before eleventh, headed 4 out, hung left, faltered before 2 out, pulled up sharply.

CHAMERON (FR) again ran poorly; made most until tenth, lost ground 5 out, struggling from next.
