A sub-par renewal of the Irish 1000 Guineas, none of those who took part at Newmarket turning up and just 3 of the 11 runners having previously won outside of maiden company; the finish was dominated by the O'Brien clan, Aidan - who was landing this prize for the ninth time - responsible for the first and third, Donnacha supplying the runner-up and Joseph completing the frame; it was run at a fair pace and there were no real hard-luck stories.

PEACEFUL (IRE) improved with every run last year and took another step forward to run out a convincing winner on her first attempt at this level, her task made easier by Albigna underperforming but no denying her superiority on the day, drawing clear in the final 1f to supply Seamus Heffernan - Ballydoyle's de facto number 1 jockey at present - with his fourth win in this race; prominent, went on approaching final 1f, kept on well; a second 1000 Guineas winner in under a week for Aidan O'Brien, Peaceful will stay at least 1¼m when the time comes but with Love reportedly on track for the Oaks, Peaceful may well be turned out again in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot in just 7 days time.

FANCY BLUE (IRE) a first classic runner for Donnacha O'Brien and 1 of just 3 fillies in the field previously successful in pattern company, lost her unbeaten record but emerged with her reputation enhanced, doing very well to finish where she did having been set plenty to do; waited with, still plenty to do when came wide under 3f out, stayed on well to grab second near the line; has loads of stamina on the distaff side of her pedigree (out of a sister to High Chaparral) and will do better still when stepping up in trip.

SO WONDERFUL (USA) highly tried during a busy juvenile campaign (in frame in pattern company on last 4 starts), ran well on form, although was seen to something like maximum effect; chased leaders, briefy had to wait for gap 2f out, second 1f out, no extra; a straightforward sort, it goes without saying that there are races to be won with her.

NEW YORK GIRL (IRE) from a yard that has made a relatively slow start since racing resumed, took another step forward after 9 months off; chased leaders, effort over 1f out, kept on; is bred to come into her own at middle distances and is open to further improvement with that in mind.

EVEN SO (IRE) on firmer ground than previously, improved again despite being kept to 1m, doing all she could from further back than ideal; waited with, had to pick way through over 2f out, stayed on, never nearer; previous comments about trip still apply and the best is yet to come from her.

ALBIGNA (IRE) the best of these last year (won the Marcel Boussac), disappointed for no obvious reason after 8 months off, unable to pick up having been close enough if good enough when the race began in earnest; mid-division, shaken up over 2f out, faded final 1f; quickly got back on track after an underwhelming effort in the Moyglare last year so is well worth another chance, particularly as she still has longer trips to explore.

APRICOT MOON a once-raced maiden winner last year, ran as well as could be expected upped markedly in grade after 6 months off; mid-division, ridden over 2f out, ran green, one paced; may do better still.

KATIBA (IRE) on firmer ground than previously, failed to progress on her return from 8 months off, though it's worth noting that she wasn't the only one from this yard to disappoint in recent days; raced wide, held up, ridden under 3f out, made no impression.

VALERIA MESSALINA (IRE) failed to build on her juvenile form after 8 months off; broke fast, made running, headed over 1f out, weakened.

SOUL SEARCH (IRE) still a maiden, ran below form, beaten before the 1f longer trip became an issue; held up, ridden over 2f out, made no impression.

MY LUCKY PENNY (IRE) in first-time tongue strap after 4 months off, had no business in this field; always behind.
