Hardly a vintage Irish Oaks, a career-ending injury denying the Epsom heroine, Ezeliya, the opportunity to follow up, but it was certainly competitive, a point underlined by a volatile betting market, Content parachuted into favouritism when it was confirmed that Ryan Moore would ride, that decision justified to a large extent as she fared best of the home challenge but, in a race run at just a fair pace where a few met trouble in the straight, she was unable to peg back You Got To Me who got first run; a second Irish classic for trainer Ralph Beckett, who was gaining a measure of compensation for a narrow defeat in this race last year, this was a first ever Group 1 win for jockey Hector Crouch.

YOU GOT TO ME backed at long odds, produced a near smart effort to go three places better than she had at both Epsom and Royal Ascot, a more patient ride combined with a first-time tongue strap helping to eke out the necessary improvement; mid-division, headway early in straight, avoided trouble, produced to lead entering final 1f, kept on, always holding on; the Yorkshire Oaks will presumably be on her agenda after this.

CONTENT (IRE) ran at least as well as last time upped another 2f in trip, and may well have an even bigger performance in her locker, not enjoying quite so smooth a run through as the winner here and no surprise to hear connections mention the Breeders' Cup Fillly and Mare turf as a potential end-of-season target; dropped out, took strong hold, still plenty to do when short of room home turn, had to pick way through early in straight, had to wait for gap briefly 1f out, kept on well.

PURPLE LILY (IRE) ran well upped to a trip that appeared to stretch her, holding on for a place having moved smoothly into contention; mid-division, going well when not clear run early in straight, effort under 2f out, no extra final 100 yds; she is well up to winning at pattern level, the Blandford Stakes back here on Champions weekend an obvious target.

ELIZABETH JANE (IRE) one of the least exposed in the field, showed much improved form upped in trip and grade; dropped out, headway out wide early in straight, ridden under 2f out, kept on; a very well-bred filly, there is more to come from her, worth noting that her dam was even better at 4 yrs.

CAUGHT U LOOKING (IRE) who attracted , ran to a similar level to last time, once again doing best of those that raced close to the pace; chased leaders, every chance 2f out, fourth 1f out, effort flattened out.

HANALIA (IRE) a supplementary entry, ran to a similar level as last time whilst leaving the impression that this didn't quite get to the bottom of her; held up, took strong hold, headway when not clear run over 2f out, forced to switch, one paced; well worth another try at this trip and remains with potential.

DARE TO DREAM (FR) who had finished third to Content in a Group 3 at this track last year, shaped better than the distance beaten suggests, bred to stay this trip but not quite seeing it out on this occasion; tracked pace, travelled as well as any, edged ahead 2f out, headed approaching final 1f, weakened.

WAR CHIMES (FR) placed in the Epsom equivalent, wasn't in the same form here, looking a hard ride; in rear, pulled hard, headway out wide entering straight, carried head bit awkwardly, hung badly right, kept on, never landed a blow.

LAVA STREAM (IRE) supplemented for this race on the back of an excellent effort at Ascot, turned in her first lacklustre display of the campaign; waited with, brief headway early in straight, driven 2f out, no response and not persevered with once held.

GALILEO DAME (IRE) ran as well as could be expected in this company; raced off the pace, pushed along approaching home turn, plugged on, merely ed beaten horses; will stay further than 1½m.

LOPE DE LILAS (IRE) very easy to back on track having been prominent in the betting for this race for a while, proved a let-down, presumably more to this than simply the 2f longer trip; handy, went with enthusiasm, switched entering straight, upsides briefly 2f out, weakened final 1f.

MADAM CELESTE (IRE) wasn't up to this better company; mid-division, ridden entering straight, hung right, made no impression.

PORT FAIRY (IRE) overlooked by Ryan Moore and very easy to back, was attempting to become the third Ribblesdale winner in the last 6 years to follow up here but ran no sort of race, something clearly not right; close up, led briefly entering straight, headed approaching 2f out, found nothing.

RUBIES ARE RED (IRE) in first-time visor, has gone the wrong way since finishing a close second to You Got To Me in the Lingfield Oaks trial, but can have this run overlooked in isolation, used as pacemaker; made running, pushed along over 3f out, headed home turn, weakened, eased off.
