proved himself a smart performer as he made it 3 wins from 5 careers starts, allowed the run of things but doing well to hold off the challengers over what is probably a barely adequate trip for him, not completely at home on the track, either; made all, travelled fluently, tackled over 2f out, hung right, ridden when edged left over 1f out, asserted final 100 yds.

ridden with more patience this time, proved at least as good as ever and looks up to winning a similar contest, just coming from a little too far back the way things panned out; held up, headway over 2f out, took second inside final 1f, kept on.

ran to a similar level as at Royal Ascot, again simply beaten on merit for all she seemed to struggle a touch with the track; close up, challenged over 2f out, wandered, every chance still 1f out, no extra final 100 yds.

after a further 11 weeks off, came up short and essentially remains with one standout effort, not that there's a great deal wrong with that form, though; waited with, steady headway 3f out, ridden when hung right from 2f out, weakened final 1f.

A listed contest which has thrown up a few superstars in its time and this looks a solid renewal for all there were no improvers on show, 4 of the 5 coming here on the back of Royal Ascot runs and it pretty much going with form.

CHESSPIECE proved himself a smart performer as he made it 3 wins from 5 careers starts, allowed the run of things but doing well to hold off the challengers over what is probably a barely adequate trip for him, not completely at home on the track, either; made all, travelled fluently, tackled over 2f out, hung right, ridden when edged left over 1f out, asserted final 100 yds.

SEA OF ROSES ridden with more patience this time, proved at least as good as ever and looks up to winning a similar contest, just coming from a little too far back the way things panned out; held up, headway over 2f out, took second inside final 1f, kept on.

CIRCLE OF FIRE ran to a similar level as at Royal Ascot, again simply beaten on merit for all she seemed to struggle a touch with the track; close up, challenged over 2f out, wandered, every chance still 1f out, no extra final 100 yds.

SALT BAY (GER) after a further 11 weeks off, came up short and essentially remains with one standout effort, not that there's a great deal wrong with that form, though; waited with, steady headway 3f out, ridden when hung right from 2f out, weakened final 1f.
