A smart quartet that were closely matched on their best form made for an intriguing puzzle, the market swinging firmly behind Kachy after 3 of the 4 had been vying for favouritism for much of the day, the market getting it wrong.

WAADY (IRE) off since May, was gaining a first win since landing a Group 3 in July 2015, but he's been highly tried and relatively lightly raced for a sprinter since, this suggesting he's right back to his best after a couple of below-par efforts in the spring; close up, raced freely, led under pressure inside final 1f, in command soon after.

KACHY in hood first time and without the tongue strap he'd worn of late, was all the rage in the market, but couldn't justify that , albeit bouncing back from last time, running creditably but beaten fair and square; led, shaken up 2f out, headed inside final 1f, one paced.

GRACIOUS JOHN (IRE) was right back to near the form he showed when runner-up to Kimberella in the spring, likely to look very well in on this if running in a handicap on his next start, the handicapper not allowed to raise his mark for finishing placed in a conditions event; in touch, outpaced halfway, stayed on final 1f, took third close home.

ORNATE was easy to back near the off and ran just respectably; slowly into stride, not settle fully, close up soon after start, ridden under 2f out, no extra well inside final 1f.

PERCY TOPLIS collected fifth prize in his own time; soon behind, lost touch before halfway.
