With Cadillac - short-priced favourite at the time - a late withdrawal and just 2 lengths between the first 6 home, it seems safe to assume that this was just an average renewal of this Group 3 and, as in the preceeding Silver Flash, not too many got into it, Military Style making all to maintain Aidan O'Brien's stranglehold on this particular prize.

MILITARY STYLE (USA) showed much improved form and a willing attitude to resume winning ways, though was seen to something like maximum effect on the day; made running, ridden entering straight, all out to hold on; is well entered up and further improvement can't be ruled out.

VAN GOGH (USA) potentially the best long-term prospect in this field, showed much improved form to turn around debut form with both Masen and Charterhouse; mid-division, headway entering straight, kept on, not unduly punished; not yet the finished article, he will stay 1m and is open to further improvement.

MASEN showed improved form despite leaving the impression he is still very much a work in progress; mid-division, not settle fully, forced to switch entering straight, bumped soon after, kept on, took third near line; will go on improving.

CHARTERHOUSE sporting different colours than when runner-up here on debut, backed up that effort and then some, clearly comfortable in this grade; chased leaders, second 1f out, no extra and only run out of a place near the line; looks a banker for a maiden at the very least.

STATE OF REST (IRE) ran to a similar level to last time; raced wide, held up, ran green early in straight, kept on, never nearer, not ideally placed.

VAFORTINO (IRE) whose form last time has been boosted since, could only take a small step forward himself; close up, went with enthusiasm, effort over 1f out, no extra; could be one for valuable nurseries.

SOUTHERN CAPE (IRE) wasn't seen to anything like best effect; held up, headway when met some trouble under 2f out, lost momentum, one paced; well worth another chance.

REVE DE VOL (IRE) awarded a maiden on debut (first past post has won since), ran about as well as could be expected up in grade; dropped out, came wide straight, merely closed up late, left poorly placed.

MAC SWINEY (IRE) on firmer ground than previously, failed to repeat last effort, is better than could show here, Manning quick to accept the situation; chased leaders, ridden entering straight, faded, considerately handled.

SWISS ACE on firmer ground than previously, fared no better than last time, the longer trip merely a side issue on the day; held up, ridden over 3f out, beaten early in straight.
