had been off for over 3 years since his second in the Breeders' Cup Classic (purchased privately after) when last seen, plenty of water under the bridge since then, retired with tendon trouble, but brought back in to training having had an unsuccessful spell as stud in Qatar and this shows he still has something to offer as he resumed winning ways in a first-time hood; dictated early then took a lead after 4f, went on again over 2f out, just kept up to work; he evidently retains a smart level of ability, but stiffer tests lie ahead later this winter should he come out of this okay.

ran as well as could be expected on form, but it's easy to see why he's been put in blinkers, his recent uncooperative streak manifesting itself once again; in touch, travelled well, pushed along early in straight, hung left and looked reluctant over 1f out, not quicken; a stronger pace and bigger field will probably suit given the turn of foot he's shown in the past but his temperament is firmly under suspicion these days.

was below form after 3 months off, easy to put a line through this run; chased leader, pulled way to front after 4f, headed over 2f out, weakened inside final 1f, unsuited by the increase in trip.

All the attention was on Toast Of New York, on the comeback trail following a lengthy absence and he brushed aside some rivals that wouldn't have laid a glove on him at his peak, workmanlike rather than impressive, but it was a step back in the right direction nonetheless.
