A strongly-run event in which few gave their running, the favourite amiss, the winner not yet decided when the third made a late mistake.

CUBAN CIGAR whose stable is going well, improved for the fitting of cheekpieces, though was helped by Scots Poet making a serious error at the last; mid-division, smooth headway end of back straight, driven 3 out, upsides when hit next, left in outright lead last, edged right, ridden out.

ZAMOND (FR) was suited by the strong pace and, having been backed at long odds, turned in his best effort of the season; mid-division, headway under pressure 3 out, stayed on.

SCOTS POET was well backed and would have gone close to following up his victory here last time but for a couple of rare jumping lapses; mid-field, led on bridle 3 out, ed when not fluent next (rider briefly lost an iron), chance-ending mistake last; remains one to be interested in.

RUSSIAN VIRTUE a winner on the Flat since last seen over jumps, was easy to back but shaped as if still in good form; raced wide, mid-field, kept mistakes to minimum, progress seventh, driven next, one paced.

IOLANI (GER) very easy to back with cheekpieces reapplied, rather predictably followed a good run with a below-par one; in touch, mistake fifth, ridden end of back straight, merely plugged on.

JACKHAMMER (IRE) looked rusty after 4 months off, a return to Perth/lesser contests probably on the cards next; raced off the pace, jumped left fifth, out wide seventh, ridden home turn, bad mistake 2 out, merely ed beaten horses.

PATEEN (IRE) found this too competitive after 6 months off; in touch, raced freely, driven approaching seventh, left behind before next.

SIMPLE STAR (IRE) did far too much too soon in first-time tongue strap; forced pace, clear after fourth, not fluent sixth, headed 3 out, soon done with.

IVETWIGGEDIT tasted defeat for the first time since ing the yard but is best excused the run, found to be coughing; led-in at start, raced wide/off the pace, some headway end of back straight, struggling when untidy 3 out.

THE NAVIGATOR proved to be a major disappointment bidding to win the race for a second year in succession; mistake 3 out, always behind.

CAN'T STOP NOW (IRE) who attracted , is best not judged on this run but remains one to take on given his free-going nature; chased leader, driven entering straight, hit 2 out, soon beaten, raced closer to pace than ideal.

BEBSIDE BANTER (IRE) was flying too high in this grade (10 lb out of the handicap); handy, hit first, lost place approaching fifth, struggling badly after next, pulled up.

WOR VERGE was amiss (bled); soon detached, mistake first, pulled up end of back straight.

WELL EDUCATED (IRE) turned in a rare poor effort back down in trip/grade; mid-division, went in snatches, behind seventh, pulled up; type to bounce back quickly.
