A race that has carved its own place in the summer calendar since it was first run in 1991, when Paris House, twice subsequently runner-up in the Nunthorpe, beat just 12 opponents in a 3-way photo, not many of the winners since of his ability, though last year's, Happy Romance, landed the Hackwood Stakes preceding this, the field now generally a maximum, though this year's was 3 short, much else about this running typical, with a couple standing out on form shown at a higher level, the field splitting into essentially 2 groups, little between the 2 and plenty having a chance late on, though the favourite, who had no run at all, not one of them, the winner from a yard that has a superb record in the race over the whole 30 years, this its third win in the last 4 runnings; with the first 16 covered by under 6 lengths, it would be difficult to take a high view of the form, and a few are likely to be flattered, but the winner certainly has the ability to make an impact at a higher level, this just his second start.

GUBBASS (IRE) after 3 months off, followed up his debut win, heavily backed close to the off and justifying that with a strong finish; slowly into stride, raced near side, in touch, shaken up 2f out, kept on well final 1f, led near line; he's likely to go up to pattern level (entered in the Gimcrack) and more will be needed there, but there is better to come.

SYMPHONY PERFECT (IRE) ran well upped in grade, the improvement perhaps not surprising, given the steady progress she'd been making, though that she could show it over 5f perhaps was; raced near side, close up, led 2f out, kept on well final 1f, every chance near line, kept on.

DELMONA (IRE) ran to a similar level as last time, coming off best in the argy-bargy with the 2 favourites, though it probably did none of them much good; raced near side, waited with, effort 2f out, hung right, kept on well final 1f, nearest at the finish.

GUILDED (IRE) about the pick of these on looks, ran another good race, faced with another demanding task, collared only late on by those in the other group; raced far side, pressed leader, went on overall 2f out, hung left inside final 1f, headed close home.

ADNAAN seemed to excel himself, certainly confirming the promise of his last run, though in the process blowing a clearly generous nursery mark; raced far side, raced off the pace, outpaced halfway, kept on well final 1f, nearest at the finish; he should stay 6f.

VINTAGE CLARETS wasn't in the same form as last time, the drop in trip perhaps not ideal, though he also hung under pressure, getting in a bumping match, which didn't help; raced near side, in touch, ridden over 2f out, hung left over 1f out, not quicken well inside final 1f.

ADAAY IN ASIA showed further improvement, making her turf debut, coping well with the drop back to 5f; slowly into stride, raced far side, chased leaders, raced freely, ridden 2f out, edged left, not quicken inside final 1f.

LATIN LOVER (IRE) ran well upped in grade, and might have done even better had he kept a straighter course in the closing stages; raced far side, in touch, ridden halfway, challenged 2f out, wandered, not quicken last ½f.

CHIPOTLE held an obvious chance on form, under conditions which ought to have been ideal, but little went right for him and a line can be put through the run; raced near side, held up, travelled well, headway 2f out, badly hampered over 1f out, not recover; he's well entered up, including in the Nunthorpe.

SHOWTIME MAHOMES wasn't disgraced, though, given the way he won last time, he seemed to find the speed test a bit too much; raced far side, soon steadied, outpaced halfway, kept on inside final 1f, never on .

ROSA MYSTICA (IRE) on firmer ground than previously, seemed to excel herself up in grade, not certain to repeat it back in a more usual contest; raced far side, waited with, ridden over 2f out, hung right, chased leaders over 1f out, no extra late on.

DESERT (IRE) had a lot to find on what he'd done previously and he ran well upped in grade, despite the drop to 5f perhaps not being ideal; raced far side, in touch, shaken up halfway, chased leaders 2f out, not quicken entering final 1f.

INCOME (IRE) didn't really know enough to get involved and was not given a hard race, one of these still with some potential; shaken up briefly soon after start, off pace, pushed along under 2f out, hampered entering final 1f, no extra late on, never on ; may yet do better.

SIENNA BONNIE (IRE) was below form, the effort of making the running in this company a bit too much; raced near side, led overall, headed 2f out, weakened over 1f out.

RAGING (IRE) was again below form, never looking likely to get involved; raced far side, soon behind, late headway.

ZOLTAN STAR ran about as well as could have been expected upped in grade; raced far side, disputed lead until halfway, remained prominent, hampered over 1f out, weakened inside final 1f.
