A useful handicap, easily the best on the card, and it seemed a fair race as well, with the first 3 coming from different parts of the field.

TURBINE (IRE) proved a different proposition just when it looked like he'd hit the buffers, no rarity with this yard, doing plenty (took strong hold) in front yet having enough left to maintain his advantage after quickening for home over 2f out; he's raced only 5 times, all at 7f, but he shapes as if shorter wouldn't trouble him.

PERIL shaped well after 3 months off, doing more than enough to suggest there are more handicaps to come his way from 4 lb higher than at Wolverhampton; patiently ridden, headway out wide over 2f out, closed all the way to the line.

LAT HAWILL (IRE) shaped really encouragingly with headgear removed on his first outing since leaving Marco Botti, only to be hoped he holds his form better for this yard, as his mark is potentially lenient; in touch, travelled as well as any (looked well suited by drop back in trip), forced to switch 2f out, effort soon after, ran on; certainly worth chancing next time.

FULLON CLARETS matched rather than bettered this year's previous 2 runs, though this did amount to a rise in grade; prominent, ridden over 2f out, kept on, had every chance.

GERRY THE GLOVER (IRE) showed the benefit of his reappearance run, shaping as if as good as ever, leaving the impression this wasn't enough of a stamina test even ridden closer to the pace than usual, quirky though he is at the best of times; mid-field, outpaced halfway, best work finish.

TIGER JIM seems to be building up to something, again not seen to best effect; dropped out, off pace still halfway, ran on late, left with a lot to do; he's potentially well handicapped now.

WALL OF FIRE (IRE) has been handed a stiff-looking mark judged on his 2 juvenile efforts for Richard Hannon, and it showed, fitted with blinkers to little avail after 8 months off; patiently ridden, ridden around halfway, made little impression.

GURKHA FRIEND faced a stiff task from 2 lb out of the handicap in a stronger race, better judged on this year's previous form as a result; disputed lead until 3f out, weakening when hampered final 1f.

SHOURANOUR (IRE) shaped better than the distance beaten suggests in a higher grade than he need tackle from this sort of mark (1 lb out of weights), holding his own for some way; in touch, travelled smoothly, pushed along out wide 2f out, faded.

FINN CLASS (IRE) merely underlined why he's one to be wary of, hard at work to hold his prominent place - looking none too keen - before halfway, eventually dropping away to last.
