An interesting renewal of this Group-3 prize, the race pitting some established players led by the favourite and Tattersalls Gold Cup runner-up Fascinating Rock against a couple of up-and-comers, and it was the 3-y-o Racing History, very much in the latter category that came out on top, the aforementioned market leader underperforming, though that should take nothing away from the winner, Racing History destined to scale even loftier heights; it was run at no more than an even tempo, the pace-setting Not So Sleepy kicking for home over 2f out, those held up in rear never involved.

RACING HISTORY (IRE) the least-experienced member of the field, is progressing at a rate of knots, completing the hat-trick as he took the step up to pattern company in his stride, this not going to prove his limit either, every chance he can follow in the footsteps of his brother Farhh and make the transition to Group-1 performer; mid-division, came under pressure approaching 3f out, making headway over 1f out, Buick only reaching for his whip at this point, led last ½f, kept going well; connections pointed the way towards the Group 2 Prix Dollar for his next start, though this is a rapidly improving horse who needs to be kept on side wherever he reappears, potentially a high-class prospect at 4.

CANNOCK CHASE (USA) off the course since finishing seventh in the Prince of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, shaped promisingly in defeat, coming home well having been caught flat-footed when the tempo increased, this likely to set him up perfectly for the remainder of the season, a faster terrain probably suiting ideally; held up, pushed along over 2f out, still plenty to do (just 2 behind) over 1f out, edged left under right-hand drive, stayed on, not seen to best effect the way the race developed.

BATTALION (IRE) is a mercurial customer, down the field in the John Smith's Cup last month, but this was him on a going day, not requiring any excuses, simply beaten by 2 classier individuals; chased leader, led over 1f out, headed last ½f, kept on.

NOT SO SLEEPY got back on track after 10 weeks off, enjoying the run of the race from the front, though the return to softer ground would appear the most pertinent factor, unlikely to be short of options as we head into the autumn, this his level; led, pressed on over 2f out, headed over 1f out, one paced.

FASCINATING ROCK (IRE) a debut Windsor runner for his trainer, he was strong in the betting having his first start since chasing home Al Kazeem in the Tattersalls Gold Cup in May, but shaped as if just in need of the outing attempting to concede weight all round; waited with, headway over 1f out, looked to be coming through to challenge but found his effort flattening out, one paced final 1f; should derive plenty from this both physically and mentally, no surprise to see him right back on song next time, his prowess at the top table already proven.

GRANDEUR (IRE) hasn't been quite at the peak of his powers this year, but is better than he could show here after 3 months off, poorly placed, his best form under quicker conditions; in rear, ridden approaching 2f out, late headway.

REMBRANDT VAN RIJN (IRE) found sequence of wins/progression coming to a halt upped in grade, though there were valid excuses, positioned worst of all when the tempo lifted, his victories achieved on a sounder surface; in rear, pushed along over 2f out, never on ; worth another chance in this sort of company.

MASTER CARPENTER (IRE) who was reported to be suffering from an irregular heartbeat after taking second in the Rose of Lancaster, ran below form; in touch, headway over 4f out, weakened approaching final 1f.
