The premier Derby trial threw up a winner whose performance on paper would make him a leading contender for Epsom, the effort on a par with that of Desert Crown, similarly lightly raced, who went on to win at Epsom after success in this in 2022, the conundrum being the winner is no longer in the Derby and would need to be supplemented, the case finely balanced; he made short work of what looked an open race 2f out, showing up the limitations of the 5 that are entered at Epsom, Ancient Wisdom emerging best, though he ran some way below the pick of his 2-y-o form, which was already good enough to win an average renewal of the Dante; the pace was good, the timefigure ing a positive view of the winner's performance.

ECONOMICS found huge improvement for the step up to pattern company and an extra 2f, loads to like about him and the way he did things, still looking pretty raw once in front but storming away from his rivals, the performance well up to standard for the race, a summer at the highest level very much on the cards, though whether that will include the Derby remaining to be decided, needing to be supplemented back in having recently been taken out with his trainer expressing doubts about the suitability of the track, though no doubt about his entitlement to run at that level, the Irish version - for which he receives a free supplementary entry for winning this - perhaps more appealing; held up, took keen hold, pushed along 3f out, headway to lead 2f out, quickened clear, ran green, kept on well, edged left, impressive.

ANCIENT WISDOM (FR) looked the pick on form, winner of the Autumn Stakes and Futurity at 2 yrs, and ran below his best after 7 months off, though seeming effective at the longer trip and likely to stay further still, perhaps needing ground on the soft side to be at his most effective; in touch, not settle fully, had to wait for gap over 2f out, shaken up, not quicken, stayed on final 1f, took second final 100 yds, no match for winner.

WAR ROOMS (IRE) the first to run from the Classic Trial at Sandown, stepped up on that reappearance run, though beaten fair and square; held up, effort over 3f out, edged left, every chance 2f out, not quicken.

CAMBRIDGE (IRE) would be well down the Ballydoyle pecking order and ran about as well as could have been expected upped in grade, though he didn't see the trip out so well as might have been expected on pedigree; in touch, took keen hold, effort over 3f out, every chance 2f out, soon beaten; he holds Group 1 entries (though he's not in the Derby), but will need his sights set at a lower level.

GOD'S WINDOW after just 7 days off, got away on this time and showed himself a useful colt, though he was put firmly in his place in the latter stages; led, raced freely, shaken up 3f out, headed 2f out, no extra final 1f.

CAVIAR HEIGHTS (IRE) just wasn't in the same form as last time, for a the second day running a seemingly really good effort at the Guineas meeting not confirmed in the classic trial; close up, shaken up 3f out, every chance under 2f out, no extra.

AL MUSMAK (IRE) looked to have done well physically since last year, but he ran no sort of race after 8 months off, on his toes in the preliminaries, fractious in the stalls and probably not in a state to do himself justice, his performance telling nothing about his potential to stay this 2f longer trip; in touch, shaken up 4f out, weakened 2f out, eased.
