Curragh racecourse, more commonly referred to as ‘The Curragh’, is the leading Flat track in Ireland. Home to prestigious races such as the Irish 1000 and 2000 Guineas, Irish Oaks and Derby and Irish St Leger just to name a few, it is rooted in Irish horse racing history. The majority of Ireland’s Group 1 races are held at the track, and it is renowned for putting up the biggest purses. In addition to racing at The Curragh, there are several training facilities on site. Horses trained on the Curragh have won major races worldwide in countries as diverse as England, , , Hong Kong, America, Canada, and Australia with both 1993 Melbourne Cup winner Vintage Crop and Media Puzzle, winner of the same race in 2002, both trained by Dermot Weld on the Curragh. The racecourse is at the heart of the Irish bloodstock industry, with numerous large stud farms having developed on the fringes, including the National Stud.

CURRAGH RACECOURSE MAP 6j3763
The Curragh is a horseshoe shaped, right-handed course with no sharp bends over two miles with a straight run-in of three furlongs slightly uphill. There are starts at five furlongs, six furlongs, six furlongs 63 yards, seven furlongs and a mile on a straight course. A high draw provides a slight advantage on the straight course in big fields, though in any given instance pace and positional bias usually counts for more.
